A mark on history
Medieval Scandinavian writers expanded the younger rune row, often adding dots to distinguish sounds. Some forms here are rare later variants, not a single fixed alphabet. A later runic letter for w, recorded in the Unicode Runic character repertoire.

The Medieval Runes
After Christianisation runes remained in daily use. Dots were added to existing runes so that every Latin letter had a runic counterpart, allowing prayers, names and messages to be written fully.
