A mark on history
Medieval Scandinavian writers expanded the younger rune row, often adding dots to distinguish sounds. Some forms here are rare later variants, not a single fixed alphabet. A marked t-rune allowed d to be written separately.

The Medieval Runes
After Christianisation runes remained in daily use. Dots were added to existing runes so that every Latin letter had a runic counterpart, allowing prayers, names and messages to be written fully.
